About the Position: Serve as a staff action officer in the Army G-1 Retirement Services Office (RSO), which is the policy proponent for the Army's worldwide military retirement planning and post retirement programs, the Army Chief of Staff's (CSA) Retired Soldier Council, and the HQDA Survivor Benefit Plan program. Assists in the development and execution of communications-related RSO activities and initiatives.

Duties

Assists in the development and execution of communications related Retirement Services Office (RSO) activities and initiatives. Assists the Director, Army Retirement Services in planning and directing the Department of the Army's retirement services strategic communications program. Initiates and develops timely and accurate communications for use in print, electronic, and other media. Ensures the content on the Army Retirement Services portion of the Soldier for Life website is appropriate, timely, and targeted to audiences interested in military retirement planning, post-retirement service and benefits, and survivor benefits. Provides guidance to all Army components? Retirement Services Office (RSO) worldwide about conducting their own retirement services communications to their serviced populations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Requires incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) writing and distributing retirement-related articles for external publications such as military and military-related newsletters, web sites and/or social media accounts; 2) developing communications, messages, or products to ensure understanding of retirement programs and/or policies; AND 3) applying advanced communication analytical practices, methods, or techniques to solve complex communications problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
