As a Personnel Security Specialist, you will:

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final DOE Q level security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of job offer or removal.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- The position is covered under the DOE Drug-Free Workplace Order 343.1. The tentative selectee must test negative prior to final selection for this position and will be subject to random testing thereafter.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band/grade level GS-7 equivalent in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Demonstrated knowledge of personnel clearance policies and procedures; personnel security practices sufficient to grant various types of clearances or make sound recommendations when questionable or derogatory information exists.

Time-In-Grade/Band: Current federal employees must meet time-in-grade/pay band requirements to be eligible for consideration. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade/pay band any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade/pay band requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For an NQ-02 position you must have served 52 weeks at a GS-7 level or equivalent. The grade/pay band may have been in any occupation and must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade/pay band eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade/pay band, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide additional SF-50s that clearly demonstrates the one-year time-in-grade/pay band requirement has been met.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: There is no educational individual occupational (IOR) requirement for this position. If you are substituting education for experience, Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, and you MUST provide supporting documentation (transcripts).
For this position, Education may be substituted for experience at the GS-09 Level as follows:
- Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in a related field. (OR)
- 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field. (OR)
- LL.B. or J.D., if related. (OR)
- A combination of education and specialized experience. (Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at the GS-9 level.)
