You will serve as a MAIL CLERK in the SUPPLY DIVISION, CODE 346200 of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY.

Duties

You will receive mail of all classes and special services (registered, certified, express, etc.) from the United States Postal Service (USPS). You will inspect suspicious mail in accordance with Navy regulations. You will sort, file, sack, bundle, wrap, and tie mail before loading onto mail trucks for delivery . You will pick up and deliver mail by vehicle to various delivery points within the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). You will follow postal and administrative regulations applicable to processing all types of mail. You will securely transport Classified mail following security regulations. You will obtain signed receipts for all controlled mail and return them to the Information and Correspondence Management Section for filing. You will process outgoing correspondences by date stamping, separating copies for distribution, and reviewing the format and addresses on envelopes and labels . You will use various office equipment (such as: folding and labeling equipment) for mail services. You will maintain a log book to track material received and dispatched.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver?s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position requires the ability to lift items weighing up to 70 pounds.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of general experience in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that demonstrates progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Education

The following can be substituted to meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements for this position:

Successful completion of at least two full academic years of education above high school;

OR

A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
