This position is located in Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard, Ninth Coast Guard District in Cleveland, OH. 

Duties

This position is in Cleveland, Ohio in support of the Ninth Coast Guard District with a requirement for extended travel to Ninth District units and the Coast Guard National Ice Rescue School (NIRS) in Bay City, Michigan. The NIRS serves as the Coast Guard's premiere ice rescue training program with a special emphasis on ice rescue as well as cold weather operations and survival, employing best practices from federal, state and local responders.

Qualifications

AT THE GS-11 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal sector. Examples of specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); supervising or administering a training program; developing or reviewing of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluating training results; and working in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. OR A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related OR A combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. This can be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for this grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-11. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
