You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the Mechanical Shop (Code 930) Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will instruct shop operating personnel in the care and operation of special tools/machines/devices.
You will provide technical coordination and direction to department personnel.
You will design and develop detailed working drawings for the manufacture of required tools/machines, devices which are not commercially available.
You will review quality assurance data and problems and assist in the resolution and prevention of such problems.
You will act as liaison with other engineering, technical, and administrative codes, ships' forces, and shop personnel in the development and execution of assigned projects.

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience evaluating field problems and requests for assistance for special tools, portable metal cutting/forming/grinding machines or equipment;
Experience researching potential commercial sources of needed tools/machines/devises and initiating procurement action where appropriate;
Experience providing technical direction, coordination, and control over the manufacture of tool/machines/devices needed for the assigned project.
Experience resolving problems and redesigning items until it is rendered capable of meeting its intended objectives.
