The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida's (USAO-SDFL) mission is to enforce and defend the laws of the United States of America through the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal government; the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party; and the collection of debts owed to the Federal government that are administratively uncollectible.
Duties
This Security Specialist provides a wide variety of security services to promote the effective protection of property, personnel, facilities, sensitive and classified information, communications and computer equipment and other resources against criminal, terrorist and hostile activities.
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Security Specialist support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Florida, located in Miami, Florida, focusing in the areas of security services, security education, and security awareness programs.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Typical work assignments will include:
Serving as the district expert and principal point-of-contact for all physical security matters.
In coordination with EOUSA, planning and overseeing the installation and maintenance of all physical security systems, equipment, and building modifications necessary to ensure adequate security is maintained.
Participating in contingency and emergency preparedness planning efforts to enable the district to continue essential operations and discharge responsibilities during and following various types of emergency situations.
Requirements

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
To qualify at the GS-07 level, you must possess:
Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) the duties listed below:
Utilizing security principles, concepts, methodologies, and practices to identify well defined security questions or conditions that occur; and
Assisting team members in providing selected security services that protect property, personnel, facilities, sensitive and classified information, communications and/or computer equipment.
OR one full year of graduate level education; OR meet the requirements under the superior academic achievement provision; OR a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level.
To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must possess:
Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) the duties listed below:
Utilizing security principles, concepts, methodologies, and practices to identify and resolve well defined security questions or conditions that occur;
Providing selected security services that protect property, personnel, facilities, sensitive and classified information, communications and/or computer equipment; and
Assisting in the development of security education and awareness programs.
OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level.
To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must possess:
Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) the duties listed below:
Utilizing wide range of security concepts, principles and practices to review, analyze and resolve difficult and complex security problems that occur;
Planning and overseeing the installation and maintenance of all physical security systems, equipment, and building modifications necessary to ensure adequate security is maintained; and
Interpreting security guidelines to draft implementing instructions, that provide guidance to management officials and other specialists with security-related responsibilities.
OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, ORLL.M., if related; ORa combination of the required experience and education for this grade level. Your education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. One year at the GS-07is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. One year at the GS-09is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level.
You must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted; recommended SF-50s include promotions and step increases (within grade increases).
