This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be part of a team building something new! The recently created Visitor and Resource Protection Division, Information Branch will serve as a one-stop-shop for stakeholders requesting information about National Park Service (NPS) incidents. This includes processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act requests; congressional and media information requests; and requests for information from leadership and program managers.
Duties
Reviews and analyzes FOIA and non-FOIA requests to identify the scope of requests and ensures that reasonable, properly documented searches are conducted for responsive records
Conducts quality control reviews of all responsive documents for accuracy and compliance with FOIA and/or applicable regulations, policies and guidance prior to agency response.
Ensures that all of the determinations and actions relating to conducting a search for responsive documents are documented in accordance with regulations and policies
Evaluates program operations to identify ways to improve efficiency or compliance with regulations
Maintains a variety of filling and electronic records systems and periodically performs record disposition
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. citizen or national.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

Qualifications
In order to be qualified for the GS-12 level, you must possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service, interpreting Freedom of Information Act policies for application to a specific case or problem; responding to FOIA requests by independently conducting record searches and preparing written correspondence in accordance with regulations/policies; and utilizing a variety of electronic systems to track and manage work and ensure it is completed on deadline.
In order to be qualified for the GS-13 level, you must possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service, interpreting and adapting Freedom of Information Act policies and regulations to account for new or unprecedented requests/problems; reviewing FOIA request packages for accuracy and compliance with regulations/policies; implementing guidelines to manage electronic records in accordance with law and policy; and recommending changes to program processes which may improve the accuracy or efficiency of work completion.
For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
