This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Supervisory Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Serve as a Shift Supervisor for the Law Enforcement force assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander. Exercise search and apprehension authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses and other persons involved, and determines whether facts warrant apprehension or lesser action. Conduct and/or participate in civilian training regarding various law enforcement topics conducted on an Army installation. Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer. Process visitors by determining purpose of visit; gives appropriate instruction/directions; determines the need for escorts. Perform supervisory and administrative duties relating to the police force. Set employee standards for performance and prepares performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires incumbent to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • These include, but not limited to weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires you to pass a pre-employment physical agility test (PAT) and annual physical agility test thereafter.
  • This position is subject to the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • (False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment per 18 U.S.C. Section 1001).
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 20 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in: (1) Performing law enforcement duties, such as responding to and/or investigating emergency calls, complaints and/or other calls for service; (2) Enforcing law enforcement/security laws, regulations, policies, traffic codes, standards and/or procedures; (3) Leading or supervising security or law enforcement personnel; (4) Preparing reports such as sworn statements, affidavits, and/or in-depth reports pertaining to law enforcement operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Selective Placement Factor: You must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless you have a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
