This position is located in the Special Litigation Section, Police Practice Group. The Legal Administrative Specialist (Criminal Justice Analyst), is charged with a full range of analysis work related to the Section's enforcement of the police misconduct statute (34 U.S.C. 12601).

Duties

The incumbent will serve as a Legal Administrative Specialist (Criminal Justice Analyst - Police Practice Group). Duties include, but are not limited to: Identify opportunities to further enforcement initiatives. Use skill in working with criminal justice datasets derived from other federal agencies, state or local governments, or other sources; analyzing the data using appropriate statistical software; providing ways to visualize or summarize information appropriately; and drawing well-supported, coherent conclusions. Monitor and track developments in criminal justice law, practices, and research; identifies developments in federal, state, and local criminal justice policies, programs, and practices bearing on the Section's areas of responsibility; provides regular updates on the same to the Section; researches and analyzes criminal justice policies, programs, and practices; and proposes and drafts recommended internal responses to such developments and recommended positions for the Division to assert with other Department components and federal agencies regarding the same. Identify, develop, and recommend enforcement initiatives and activities, as well as data driven strategies, to enhance the Section's efficacy in the enforcement of relevant statutes.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirements To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, candidates must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service or other pay system. Examples of specialized experience includes: Designing and conducting quantitative data analysis, data mining and reporting to determine trends and deficiencies related to the operation of law enforcement (e.g., police and sheriffs); AND Identifying, evaluating, and applying accepted research methodologies (e.g., providing descriptive statistics and selecting a representative sample) in the assessment of a program; AND Researching or analyzing criminal justice system entities (such as policing; adjudication, prosecution, or defense of criminal charges); AND Communicating information gathered from data analysis and evaluations to diverse audiences orally and in writing; AND Synthesizing and displaying data and information using interactive reports, dashboards, and visualizations. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
