The Program Support Assistant (PSA) provides administrative support to all staff within the Community Living Center (CLC) and Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) Programs of the Geriatrics & Extended Care (GEC) Service Line maintaining strict confidentiality, as well as provide back-up as needed. The PSA assists in conducting surveys of agency operating programs and patient care surveys, as required for each of these Programs.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to the following:
Provides administrative support to all staff within the Community Living Center (CLC) and Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) Programs of the Geriatrics & Extended Care (GEC) Service Line maintaining strict confidentiality.
Assists in conducting surveys of agency operating programs and patient care surveys, as required for each of these Programs.
Obtains, organizes, files, and retrieves reports, correspondence, and numerical data for use in preparing status reports, briefings, and presentations.
Analyzes workflow to determine potential problem areas and makes recommendations to correct these areas and to improve coordination between the various units and/or offices.
Receives, schedules, refers, and contacts members of the staff, agency, and persons outside the agency ranging from other government agencies to the general public.
Provides general clerical public contact support services such as answering the telephone, referring visitors, or providing information about the CLC and HBPC Programs.
Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication, as they pertain to the CLC and HBPC Programs.
Provides general clerical mail and correspondence services such as preparing a variety of recurring reports, reviewing outgoing correspondence for proper attachments, or consolidating/coordinating submittals of information.
Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or schedules conferences. Maintains calendars and records appointments, and provides administrative support for arranging meetings and/or conferences.
Obtains office supplies for the CLC and HBPC Programs through the Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) Service Line office. Justifies and requests replacements for outdated equipment by identifying the outdated equipment, gathering relevant information on office equipment.
Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions and consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner, and provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy.
Perform other assigned duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: collecting, compiling, and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating, and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings, and/or scheduling conferences; answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information.
NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates, AND hours worked per week.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
