This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Industrial Department, Engineering Branch in Baltimore, MD.
Duties
You will serve as a Naval Architect Technician with responsibilities in Naval Architect. Your responsibilities will also include completing small projects and participates in teams.Being a Coast Guard Civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard Team.Typical work assignments include:At the GS-6/7/8 levels:* Utilizing engineering drafts to prepare preliminary layout and sketches for the development, simplification and improvement of present equipment.* Developing designs for new or modifications of shipboard structures, foundations, habitability arrangements, arrangement of HVAC systems, equipment and components, boat handling and weight handling equipment and components.* Using computer aided drafting Computer Aided Design (CAD), as well as manual drafting techniques to create new and modify existing drawings.* Preparing detailed working plans, specifications and bills of material for the procurement, arrangement, fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair and modification of shipboard designs, equipment and systems.

- U.S. Citizenship is required.

Qualifications
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal Government. GS-6 level at the GS-7; GS-7 level at the GS-8. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples include positions with substantial developmental, test or design responsibilities. Trade experience may be work which provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods and precedents. OrAt least one of the following if using education to qualify at the grade level:GS-7: One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for a GS-7;Or a combination of education and specialized experience. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
