This position is the Visual Information Specialist in Comms within the Immediate Office of the Inspector General. The incumbent in this position will help the OIG connect with internal and external audiences by conceptualizing, designing, and producing innovative multimedia projects, including pamphlets, posters, infographics, web pages, podcasts, videos, data for touchscreens, and graphics for reports.

Duties

The Inspector General (IG) of the Department of Education (Department) heads an independent and objective organization responsible for audit, investigation, inspection, and designated security services related to programs and operations of the Department. The IG provides leadership and coordination and recommends policies for activities designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of programs and operations, as well as to prevent and detect fraud and abuse in such programs and operations, as well as to prevent and detect fraud and abuse in such programs and operations. The IG is the principal advisor to the Secretary of the Department on the above matters and is responsible for keeping the Secretary and Congress fully and currently informed about problems and deficiencies relating to the administration of the Department’s programs and operations and the necessity for corrective action.  The Office of Inspector General (OIG) consists of the following six components:

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:    **YOU MUST PROVIDE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION FOR THE BELOW IN YOUR APPLICATION** Education Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR Experience Specialized Experience: Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement above, the incumbent must also meet the minimum qualification requirement below:  You may meet the minimum qualifications for the GS-13 if you possess the specialized experience. Specialized Experience: One year of experience in either federal or non-federal service that is equivalent to at least a GS-12 performing the following duties or work assignments: Experience independently planning, researching, and creating visual information projects, products, and materials. Experience analyzing and integrating a wide variety of audio and visual information from a broad range of sources. Experience setting priorities for assigned tasks and certifies quality and completion of work. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) The quality of your experience will be measured by the extent to which you possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs). You do not need to provide separate narrative responses to these KSAs, as they will be measured by your responses to the occupational questionnaire (you may preview the occupational questionnaire by clicking the link at the end of the Evaluations section of this vacancy announcement). Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, AfterEffects, Express, and Audition. Demonstrated experience producing videos for use internally and externally, including knowledge of video and audio recording setup, lighting, etc., and producing and editing audio and video incorporating original footage and/or material from a variety of sources (including stock photos and videos, stock music, videos from online meeting platforms, and smart phone recordings). Demonstrated experience with content management systems, such as Drupal and content platforms such as Sharepoint. Demonstrated experience working with electronic publishing and ensuring accessibility to people with disabilities (through appropriate tagging, alternative text, use of captions, etc.) Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of the internet, social media platforms, and other multimedia technologies.
