You will serve as an EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will integrate Weight Handling Equipment design characteristics with test procedures to assure the equipment is properly tested. You will organize technical reviews for maintenance programs to verify they meet regulatory requirements. You will analyze problems associated with equipment repair work to make recommendations for corrective actions. You will collect data from lifting and handling oversight reports to determine trends that may cause accidents. You will analyze technical data for the assessment of weight handling equipment to interpret their operation and predict potential problems.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Identify deficiencies in condition and operation of a wide variety of WHE (Weight Handling Equipment); 2) Analyze technical requirements and recommend corrective action; 3) Select and safely conduct load test of WHE including lifts exceeding the manufacturer's limits; 4) Utilize mechanical, structural and electrical/electronic engineering systems as they apply to WHE design, operation, repair and maintenance. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Read, interpret, and prepare blueprints, engineering drawings, diagrams, and other technical directives to evaluate the condition and operational characteristics of the equipment or system; 2) Utilize load test and certification procedures with safety and operational regulations and instructions; 3) Determine the proper test configurations for a mobile crane load test; 4) Properly assess potential impact of proposed actions on safety and operational mission with minimal guidance. GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree

LL.M., if related



GS-09: master's or equivalent graduate degree

or

2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.B. or J.D., if related
