This is a Temporary Promotion not to exceed 1 year. A temporary promotion may, at the discretion of management, be terminated at the NTE date or at any date before. There is no entitlement to advance notice.
This temporary promotion may be extended up to a total of 5 years or made permanent without further competition.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
- You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
Qualifications

GS-08:
To be eligible at the GS-08 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level.
Specialized experience:
Performing a wide range of secretarial and administrative support functions. Examples of specialized experience may include managing attorney schedules, reviewing and preparing legal forms and correspondence, screening phone calls and visitors, reviewing outgoing correspondence for compliance with office policies, and dealing with senior executives (such as officials of federal, state, and local governments).
To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a five-minute typing sample with three or fewer errors. A typing test may later be required.
GS-09:
To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level.
Specialized Experience:
Performing a wide-range of high-level secretarial and administrative support functions. Examples of specialized experience may include establishing priorities and arranging, changing, or canceling appointments and meetings for supervisor; handling matters addressed to supervisor that do not require their personal attention; presenting the views of supervisor in correspondence and other communications, ensuring prepared documents are in proper format and consulting with document author to resolve questionable material; producing a variety of written documents and information reports utilizing varied and advanced functions in different types of office automation software; handling office emergencies; and resolving situations requiring initiative based on established objectives.
