This position is located in Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Training Center Yorktown, Training Division, Engineering & Weapons Branch, in Yorktown, VA.

Duties

The incumbent will serve as an instructor for the Gunner's Mate courses.  You will provide instructions and serve as a professional instructor for the MK38 Machine Gun System courses providing troubleshooting for Mod 1/2/3 systems. Responsible for the design, development, and updates for the GM-A and MK38 schools, utilizing Human Performance Technology for future concepts, principals' methods, and practices to pan and carry out difficult and complex assignments with curriculum preparation and delivery.

Qualifications

AT THE GS-11 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience includes serving as an instructor and subject matter expert for Gunner's Mate courses; providing instruction and maintaining technical expertise in firearms/weapons; providing expertise in maintaining/troubleshooting the systems; designing, developing, and updating weapons technology to meet future needs.  OR A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related OR A combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. This can be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for this grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-11. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
