This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. Serves as a Director for State Programs on the staff of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC). The NHPRC is responsible for the administration, oversight, and management of grants that aim to increase public access to historical records collections in repositories across the United States.

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As a HISTORIAN, you will: - Serve as one of the Commission's principal staff members for the solicitation, vetting, and administration of applications from institutions, including State Historical Records Advisory Boards within the States and Territories posing projects that meet the requirements of one or more of the historical records grant programs administered by the office, as well as administration of Congressionally directed spending for historical records projects. - Serve as liaison with external customers, recipients, and awardee communities to clarify, interpret, and resolve issues, providing advice and guidance to projects requesting or receiving grant funds. - Encourage and coordinate the work of the State Historical Records Advisory Boards in developing plans and priorities for historical records preservation and related activities within the States and Territories. - Represent the Commission at professional meetings and conferences and may participate in meetings of interagency federal grantmaking agencies.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: -Performing and/or providing guidance for archival support functions and implementing best practices in collections organization, processing, management, digital preservation, access, and related archival practices; AND - Applying knowledge of issues and trends in community-centered work in the humanities; AND - Conducting presentations on historical issues and their relevance to the organization and one or more of the following U.S. history subfields: African American history, Asian American history, Hispanic American history, and/or Native American history; AND - Providing grant related technical guidance to internal and/or external stakeholders and prospective grantees.

Education

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

A. Bachelor's degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
