This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in the Department of Defense for to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This is a recruitment for WG-6501-4 Industrial Worker positions. This is a TERM position.
Duties
Serve as an Industrial Worker and as such may be required to perform a variety of ammunition operations and/or chemical/biological defense duties.
Perform a variety of assignments in connection with the production, rebuilding or demilitarization of a variety of chemical munitions including smoke canisters, grenades, projectiles, bombs, cartridges and mortars.
Trained in Operating production line machine and equipment such as hydraulic press, reaming machines, aspirators, sealers, hoist, stencil machines, strapping machines, nailing machines, crimping machines, scales, torquing tools and taping machines.
Perform cleaning and sanitizing operations on a variety of protective masks and components.
Observe protective masks and components for defects and segregates according to condition.
Perform these operations utilizing various equipment to include hand tools, power presses, and other devices used for specific applications.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position requires incumbent to pass AMMO-45 and AMMO-63 regulatory training within 2 months from start date of position.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

This position is a TERM position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of six years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Industrial Worker without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to perform the work of an Industrial Worker's duties in a production environment assembling items, handling materials, unloading boxes and placing the material at the correct production phase, replacing defective products, sorting items utilizing physical characteristics and packaging finished product and utilizing manual assembly and automated production equipment.
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Workers frequently lift bomb, shells, and rocket casings, power charges, or other objects weighting 30 to 40 pounds. Workers frequently lift and carry cartons, materials, supplies and equipment weighing up to twenty pounds and may occasionally handle items weighing up to fifty pounds. Some assignments require lifting above 60 pounds at a production rate pace determined by line speed/engineering standards. May pull or push hand trucks weighting several hundred pounds. The work requires sitting, walking, bending, reaching, crouching, and long periods of standing. Endurance and eye-hand coordination are required to work at a steady pace and rhythm for long periods. Workers perform work on hard surfaces and in work areas requiring them to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Hand-trucks, dollies and other workers are available for assistance with heavier items.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is both inside and outside. The worker may occasionally work inside areas that are drafty. The nature of the work is dirty, dusty, greasy, and the area may be noisy. Workers are required to stand on floors made of concrete for long periods of time. Operators must wear protective clothing overalls, safety shoes, respirators, protective masks, and goggles on assignments. They are frequently exposed to moisture and wet floors as a result of cleanup operations in work areas. They are exposed to fumes from acid, solvents, other industrial type of chemicals, and explosives. They are exposed to the possibility of explosion and flash fire. There is a chance for injuries ranging from loss of life or limbs to burns, cuts, bruises, sprains, and nausea. There is a slight danger of contact dermatitis involved with handling used protective and safety equipment. The worker is occasionally required to wear respiratory protective equipment and TAP clothing.
