About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned & operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Bent Labs) collocated with a manufacturing facility.

Duties

Performs final acceptance on complete complex assemblies, sub-assemblies and one of a kind prototype weapon systems. Inspects complete systems electrical circuits/components, complete mechanical recoil mechanisms, carriages, mounts and associated hydraulic systems and interrelated components for tank autoloader system. Performs a variety of in-process examinations on precision critical dimensions to determine applicable method of completion. Have the ability to read and interpret written technical data package, military/federal standards, specifications, work/job orders and the ability to determine inspection requirements, in process inspection points for critical interfaced dimension. Use advanced shop mathematics, algebra, geometry, trigonometry to compute interrelated dimensions on complex systems and assemblies. Utilize technical knowledge of the machinist trade, heat treating process, forging/casting procedure, as well as working knowledge of hydraulic systems and electric circuits that interface cannon assemblies with gun mounts and recoil systems. Determines acceptability on critically designed products such as multi lug light weight breech mechanisms, experimental composite materials used in light-weight gun barrels, electromagnetic cannon and liquid propellant firing systems. Evaluates items of special design and precision parts of unique experimental design as well as weldmats, castings, forgings, and items made of exotic material i.e.; plastics, nylons, rubber etc.

(1) Performance of final and in-process inspections on a variety of complex equipment; (2) Utilizing electronic measuring instrument such as indexing encoders, and profilometers; (3) Processing of metals, metal alloys and/or fabrics - To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. May work outside or in areas that are drafty, hot, poorly lighted, noisy, and dirty. Subject to grease, coolants, and possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises.
