There are 2 positions with the Location Support Staff of the Center for Grain and Animal Health Research in Manhattan, KS. The purpose is to provide administrative support (Human Resources, Financial Management, Purchasing, or Property Management) to the location under the direction of the Administrative Officer.

Duties

Initiates personnel actions with required attachments and monitors progress by serving as a liaison with Human Resources to ensure successful completion; Assists in the administrative onboarding and orientation of new employees; Uses knowledge of Federal regulations and procedures in the execution of duties with the scopes of Property, Purchasing, and Human Resources; Uses oral and written communication methods, techniques, and practices to create and maintain good working relationships with a variety of people and to maintain contact and convey information to a variety of personnel at the location.

Requirements

  • You must be a US Citizen or US National
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: GS-6: Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Ability to work as part of a team in onboarding or orientation of new staff; Experience performing management functions such as timekeeping, preparing personnel actions, managing property, and purchasing; Experience performing various business processes, which may include processing financial, procurement, extramural agreements, property, personnel, and other administrative functions of the management unit. GS-7: Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience independently executing organization programs and ability to work as part of a team in order to support program goals and objectives; Experience interpreting regulations, policies, and guidance to make sound decisions in administrative matters and program execution; Experience in administrative oversight of various business processes, which may include processing financial, procurement, extramural agreements, property, personnel, and other administrative functions of the management unit. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
