You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the Radiological Control Office, Radiological Monitoring Division of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will be in control of personnel exposure to ionizing radiation and protection against radioactive contamination. You will provide protection of the general public against exposure to ionizing radiation associated with Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants (NNPP). You will technically and administratively ensure work adheres to radiological control requirements. You will act as a coach, resolve simple informal complaints, provide advice, identify solutions, and balance workload. You will communicate strategic values and priorities. You will perform supervisory personnel functions to include recommending changes to personnel status, resolving informal employee complaints, providing on-the-job training, and completing formal performance evaluations.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector evaluating and modifying radiological control methods or procedures used during the repair or overhaul of naval ships or submarines to correct program deficiencies and ensure compliance with radiological control (RADCON) regulatory requirements.
