You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the Radiological Monitoring Division, Radiological Control Office of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will conduct continuing surveillances of work involving radioactive materials and radiological controls associated with Naval nuclear propulsion plant work. You will plan, direct, distribute, and balance the workload among subordinate supervisors and assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload. You will resolve and analyze technical problems and areas beyond the capacity of subordinates, problems which involve policy determination, and recommend proposed resolutions to the Division Head for approval. You will initiate personnel actions such as performance appraisals of personnel directly supervised. You will review evaluations made by supervisors on other employees which include understanding and evaluating the details of job execution and make selections for subordinate positions.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: developing, implementing, and monitoring radiological controls and practices to minimize exposure and to protect personnel and the general public from radiological hazards.
