You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICAL) in the Submarine Electrical Branch (Code 275), Electrical Engineering and Planning Division (Code 270), Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will provide engineering services including developing technical instructions for repairs and modifications to shipboard equipment and systems.
You will identify and order material and provide waterfront engineering services in support of work on submarine electrical systems.
You will provide pre-planning and waterfront electrical engineering services for submarine work conducted by Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
You will prepare and perform review of all drawings, material specifications, technical working documents (TWDs) and test procedures for technical adequacy and compliance with specifications and quality requirements.
You will provide technical guidance for and prepare procedures for conducting tests on various electrical equipment and systems.
You will establish all operational parameters such as voltage, amperage, speed, Wattage/Horsepower, etc., required to demonstrate proper performance and reliability.
You will prepare specifications and provide direction for the procurement of special material and services associated with assign projects.
You will ensure specifications describe completely the material, operating parameters, and any special requirements to permit competitive bidding.
You will act as troubleshooter in the identification and resolution of problems encountered during installations, grooming, repair, or testing phases of waterfront production efforts.
You will coordinate efforts with personnel from other engineering codes or from other activities when satisfactory conclusion is dependent upon the performance of several cognizant activities.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience providing waterfront engineering services for complex submarine systems, ship alterations and repairs to ensure specification compliance;
Experience developing status reports and comprehensive briefings for major electrical engineering projects with regard to economy, efficiency and safety;
Experience in nuclear submarine electrical installations such as power and lighting distribution, ship services and emergency generators, electrical propulsion control systems and components;
Experience evaluating and applying the latest developments and techniques in solving problems not readily treatable or accepted methods.
