You will serve as a Mechanical Engineering Technician in the Surface Prop Plant Pipe Waterfront Support Sub-Division, Design Division, Planning Department, of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will provide technical guidance for the preparation of and prepares the lists of working plans required to execute and consummate complex projects.
You will provide technical guidance for the preparation of and prepares specifications for such items as the following: Alteration Work Requirements (AWR), shipalt scopes, advance material lists, and material procurement documents.
You will prepare guidance fore preparation of procedures for conducting tests on the above systems, determines special equipment and instruments that will required for the test, and specifies the operating parameters of each system.
You will check the working plans, material specifications, test specs, and other documents for technical adequacy and conformity with the specifications and quality requirements.
You will analyze reports submitted by the shops as a result of test and examination of equipment or piping for repairs.
You will prepare correspondence and reports on many aspects of his work including official letters and naval messages to NAVSEA and other Naval activities as well as memorandum reports to various offices.
You will provide technical guidance for the performance of and performs difficult mathematical calculations associated with the project designs.
You will provide waterfront technical support to investigate operation of equipment and systems and make recommendations for change in design to remedy faulty conditions.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following specialized experience such as:
Experience applying mechanical engineering concepts and principles to engineering projects.
Experience in the design installation, maintenance, reliability and failure analysis, and the interface with other shipboard systems.
Experience scheduling work and work of others.
Experience working with other shops, codes, contractors to accomplish complex engineering work.
Experience with fluid flow, piping flexibilities, and metallurgy.
