About the Position: Serves as IT Specialist that performs system management and analysis of Womack Army Medical Center Local Area Network (LAN)/ Metropolitan Area Network (MAN).

Duties

Perform system management and analysis of Womack Army Medical Center Local Area Network (LAN)/ Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). Apply a thorough knowledge of IT network principles relevant to user-developed applications. Participate in forecasting the need for changes to IT network hardware and software and resolves ways to simplify use or improve performance. Perform studies and advises management on the need for new network systems or changes in existing network system. Promote security awareness among users of Womack Army Medical Center services and implements or recommends security measures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a SECRET security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and selected Special Access Programs.
  • May be required to work irregular hours which may include overtime, weekends, holidays and on call.
  • Position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain the CCNP certification within 6 months of employment; Certification requirements - Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
  • Incumbent must pass a required Pre-Appointment Physical.

(4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: identifying and solving problems by gathering and applying information from a variety of materials or sources that provide several alternatives; recognizing and taking action to address non-routine problems; soliciting feedback from multiple stakeholders to understand an issue or problem and accurately assess its root causes and potential solutions; seeking supervisory review where appropriate. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer ServiceData ManagementNetwork OperationSystem Administration Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
