The Technical Development and Assistance Unit (TDAU) provides training and support to sustain the development of specialized skills needed as a law enforcement officer working in the D.C. Criminal Justice System. The incumbent of this position serves as a subject matter expert instructor; provides content for the development of training materials; represents PSA at external community-based forums and identifies new opportunities for PSA participation with justice partner initiatives.
Duties
As a Technical Development and Assistance Specialist, you will:
1. Collaborate with peers to develop and administer class curricula for law enforcement supervisors and staff. Plan, coordinate, and execute basic and advanced law enforcement training classes. Work with AD of DESS, DESS senior leaders, DESS managers, and DESS supervisors to assess, identify and recommend law enforcement training that align with the mission of the Agency, the Agency's priority goals, skill gaps among law enforcement staff and performance deficiencies that meet identified needs.
2. Participate in and represent PSA at external community-based forums (i.e., MPD's Beat the Streets, USAO's Youth Summit, National Night Out) and identify new opportunities for PSA participation with justice partner initiatives; work with DC Council constituent services representatives to explore interest and opportunities for presenting about PSA.
3. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring staff is properly trained on how to use internal and external law enforcement computer systems necessary to perform their duties and PSA personnel complies with the requirements to maintain access to internal and external law enforcement computer systems.
4. Address skill gaps in the technical expertise of supervisors and staff as identified by quality management activities and events.
5. Review, analyze, and recommend changes to policies, instructions, and procedures in areas of responsibility impacting DESS law enforcement employees. Collaborate with others to analyze relevant laws, regulations, and policies affecting DESS law enforcement staff.
6. Promote knowledge transfer of best practices, policies, instructions, new information, and trends in the pretrial services arena.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirement below.
To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience related to the duties of the position, comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with external criminal justice and community organizations and federal, state, and local government agencies. Experience applying creative facilitation methods and techniques in the delivery of interactive law enforcement training.
