Duties

You will inspect ship for adherence to Federal, Naval Sea Systems Command, and Shipyard directives governing shipboard damage control. You will advise the Ship?s Project Superintendent and Commanding Officer on Federal, Naval Sea Systems Command, and Shipyard directives related to damage control and discuss unique problems to develop effective solutions. You will be responsible for planning and executing integrated fire and flooding response drills.

• This is a bargaining unit position.
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For the GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: planning and executing evaluations or surveillance ofshipboard inspections in accordance with damage control program requirements that includes the design, operation and maintenance of ships and onboard systems to identify and recommend solutions to non-compliance problems. For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade levelor pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: conducting shipboard inspections in accordance with damage control program requirements that includes the design, operation and maintenance of ships and onboard systems to identify and recommend solutions to non-compliance problems. Education

Education may substitute for specialized experience as follows:
GS-11 level only:
Successful completion of Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, OR;
Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR;
Successful completion of LL.M., if related OR;
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
