This position is located in the Legal Division, Corporate Operations Branch, Corporate and Legal Operations Section of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and provides support in the areas of compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act and their relationship to other disclosure and privacy laws, rules and regulations.
Duties
Makes recommendations to the FOIA Counsel, the Supervisory Counsel (FOIA), the Senior Counsel (ORU), and other senior FDIC officials regarding FOIA and Privacy Act processing for complex and sensitive requests.
Conducts detailed reviews of proposed redactions in agency records provided by divisions and offices in response to FOIA or Privacy Act requests.
Drafts internal and external correspondence and responses to FOIA and Privacy Act requests consistent with established policies and procedures.Manages a caseload in a timely and efficient manner and communicates as needed with the Supervisory Counsel (FOIA) or Senior Counsel (ORU) about the progress of assignments and any issues or concerns with completing tasks including, but not limited to, providing technical advice to support staff and other specialists, as directed.

Qualifications
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 12 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing advice regarding the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act and corresponding regulations; interacting and communicating with leadership on matters regarding the administration and compliance of the FOIA and Privacy Act and related policies; and processing FOIA requests as part of managing a caseload.
