Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Duties

Make any replacement necessary where repair is found impractical. Drive vehicles as required in diagnosing malfunctions and placing in an operable condition for pre-inspection. Utilize hoists, jacks, overhead bridge crane, and assistance of other workers when heavier items are encountered. Use technical manuals, illustrations, specifications, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides to make repairs and modifications. Perform pre-shop analysis of heavy mobile and engineering equipment to determine maintenance needed on equipment and make repairs. Responsible for performing the full scope of maintenance, repair, rebuild and/or modification and initial inspection of new, state-of-the-art, lifesaving armored vehicles.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Passport.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain valid state driver's license.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Travel Card (GTC).
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 90% of the time. (90% CONUS/OCONUS)
• Must be able to pass pre-employment/deployment physical and maintain annual requirements.
• Position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment and clothing provided by the employer.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
• Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
• This is a Term position scheduled to last 1 year and 1 day. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic (Direct Hire Authority) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties such as perform pre-shop analysis of heavy mobile and engineering equipment to determine the type of maintenance needed. Test driving for correct operations and ensure proper preventive and safety maintenance is maintained. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all seasons, and in environmental chambers; frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, noise; when outside. Frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and from hard, damp floors or ground. The parts and systems to be worked on are usually dirty, oily, or greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Often exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acid, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the danger from above conditions, the mechanic is expected to follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as protective ear devices, goggles, safety shoes, and protective clothing.
