About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Duties

Make any replacement necessary where repair is found impractical. Drive vehicles as required in diagnosing malfunctions and placing in an operable condition for pre-inspection. Utilize hoists, jacks, overhead bridge crane, and assistance of other workers when heavier items are encountered. Use technical manuals, illustrations, specifications, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides to make repairs and modifications. Perform pre-shop analysis of heavy mobile and engineering equipment to determine maintenance needed on equipment and make repairs. Responsible for performing the full scope of maintenance, repair, rebuild and/or modification and initial inspection of new, state-of-the-art, lifesaving armored vehicles.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Passport.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain valid state driver's license.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Travel Card (GTC).
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 90% of the time. (90% CONUS/OCONUS)
• Must be able to pass pre-employment/deployment physical and maintain annual requirements.
• Position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment and clothing provided by the employer.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
• Temporary promotion may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years and can be made permanent without further competition.
• Temporary appointment may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years but cannot be made permanent.
• Temporary reassignment may be made or extended at management discretion and can be made permanent without further competition.

Frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and from hard, damp floors or ground. The parts and systems to be worked on are usually dirty, oily, or greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Often exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acid, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the danger from above conditions, the mechanic is expected to follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as protective ear devices, goggles, safety shoes, and protective clothing.
