About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security - Range Branch, Operations, Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville. Both visitors & residents enjoy the shops & eateries of downtown Hopkinsville & Clarksville. The cost of living is lower than the average for all major U.S. cities.

Duties

Plan and schedule work of duty to provide adequate coverage for range operations for 24 hours a day, seven days a week on alternate or flexible work schedule when necessary and required. Render advice and assistance unit personnel on the capabilities and limitations of all weapons used in military training at the installation. Develop detailed training plans for assigned personnel to broaden personnel skills. Oversee the collection, organization and the maintenance of statistical data records and other pertinent information used to prepare various recurring reports for use by the installation?s higher headquarters. Formulate and issue written instructions per procedures and special instructions for non-routine or complex assignments. Write range waivers and exceptions to policy for approval at higher levels.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Term employment which is subject to a one year trial period.
  • This is a Term position not to exceed 3 years.
  • This position is designated as an Inclement Weather Essential position, may be required to perform duties exposed to extreme weather.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires a Pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires the ability to lift approximately 60 lbs.
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • This position is subject to a one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Incumbent may be required to enter an established impact areas to install targets and accessories.
  • Incumbent may be required to work nonstandard duty hours (e.g., shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime-both scheduled and unscheduled, and, is subject to recall 24 hours a day, seven days a week in case of emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to work in adverse conditions to include snow, ice, rain, and dust.
  • Required to attend and successfully graduate from the Army Range Safety Course within one year after appointment to the position.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to, safety shoes, glasses, ear protection etc.

Specialized experience is defined as: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Experience assisting units with preparing plans on the safety of firing live ammunition for training on a range; 2) Experience maintaining listing of major planned training activities to prevent scheduling conflicts; 3) Experience coordinating and processing unit requests for live fire exercises; and 4) Experience monitoring all training activities on the installation using computerized range facility management support system. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ammunition and ExplosivesCompliance InspectionFirearmsOral CommunicationWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade, time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. NOTE: To support the Advancement requirement you MUST submit a copy of your latest non-award SF-50/NPA that reflects your highest grade held on a permanent basis along with your application/resume package.
