You will serve as a Firefighter (BLS/Hazmat Technician) in the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Division of NAVAL AIR STATIONMeridian.

Duties

You will perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or automatic external defibrillation (AED) during respiratory and cardiac emergencies You will operate firefighting equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom, ground sweep nozzles) to control or eliminate fires You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident You will inspect fire apparatus requiring repair or preventive maintenance. You will control and extinguish a fire during firefighting operations. You will establish communication with receiving emergency facilities to transport patients.

  • You will be required to wear a uniform and use all safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and will fall under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
  • The employee is required to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Assisting in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards; 2) Operating a variety of fire prevention/control equipment in an effective manner; 3) Responding, controlling, and extinguishing fires of facilities, airfields, basins, ships, special weapons, hazardous materials, etc.; 4) Providing Basic Life Support (BLS) techniques, during initial patient care, on-going patient assessment, and physical examinations; 5) Managing respiratory and cardiac emergencies; utilizing equipment/ devices such as i.e? bag-valve-mask resuscitation, automatic external defibrillation (AED) or continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices; as prescribed in established protocols and procedures. *** This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-7: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Technician, Airport Firefighter, Driver Operator Pumper, and Driver Operator ARFF. The following certification is also required: Emergency Medical Technician - Basic and must have been awarded by the National Registry (if you do not have NREMT, you MUST obtain National Registry within 12 months from the date of hire). You must also obtain Driver Operator Aerial within 12 months from the date of hire. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
