You will serve as a FIRE TRAINING CHIEF in in the FIRE DEPARTMENT of NAVAL AIR STATION. Commander, Navy Region Southeast

Duties

You will direct the planning and development of training programs to meet fire certification requirements. You will create lesson plans to ensure fire or emergency services training objectives are understood and achieved. You will inspect a fire station to verify training objectives are accomplished and documented. You will present fire protection and prevention education or training to employees.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Per OPNAVINST 5100.23E CH-1 of 5 October 2000: Due to the nature of the work and responsibility, this position requires training in and administering of first aid and/or CPR and is a condition of employment.
  • The incumbent will be required to work a 56-hour work week.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing training for all areas of Fire and Emergency Services (i.e. structural firefighting, shipboard firefighting, aircraft firefighting, wildland firefighting, hazardous materials, and emergency medical care); 2) Conducting inspections to ensure training objectives are being accomplished; 3) Ensuring safety guidelines are being implemented across all fire stations; 4) Identifying safety deficiencies and/or recommending corrective action. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.*** PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Depending on the location and type of training being conducted, the work is performed sitting, standing, crawling, climbing, etc. The work requires lifting/dragging fire department tools, equipment, appliances, etc. Must successfully pass an annual firefighter's physical examination. The incumbent must be physically capable of performing and supervising firefighting functions during adverse weather conditions, hazardous and related conditions for extended periods of time. Incumbent is required to participate in on-duty physical fitness program. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is conducted in classroom and operational area, both inside and outside of buildings. Incumbent will be exposed to smoke and heat during live fire training. Additionally, incumbent may be exposed to eye and noise hazards, hazardous materials and all weather conditions. Incumbent must wear uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
