This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DOD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Responsible for carrying out selected assignments in the maintenance and repair of production and non-production machinery and equipment, fabrication and repair of sheet metal parts and assemblies. Test equipment and measuring devices to make adjustments and conduct operational tests.
Duties
Perform maintenance and repair of production and non-production machinery and equipment.
Repair and operationally check crane hoists, associated lifting, rigging and suspension hardware.
Perform maintenance and repair on large commercial overhead sectional, roll up and bi-fold door.
Fabricate and repair sheet metal for rain gutters, downspouts, ducts, roof flashings, safety guards, sink tops and drain boards.
Read and interpret technical blueprints manufacturers' manuals and catalogs to determine critical dimensions.
Utilize portable machinery and equipment such as sheet metal tools, grinders, welding, cutting, and brazing equipment to remove all worn or damaged parts, fabricate parts and make repairs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must have a valid, current state driver's license or willing to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- This position requires the completion of pre-employment physical and annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform common Maintenance Worker tasks including maintenance and repair of production and non-production machinery and equipment. I can assist journey level mechanics in the repair, maintenance and installation of large complex fixed and semi-fixed production machinery; install, maintain and repair chain link fencing and gates, such as single, double swing, cantilever and roll gates; read and interpret blueprints manufacturers manuals; utilize common hand tools to remove damaged parts and make repairs; and utilize test and measuring devices to make adjustments and conduct operational tests of machinery and equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and climb for sustained periods of time. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally is required to carry heavier objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works on dirty greasy equipment in cramped quarters both indoors and out in all types of weather on slippery or uneven surfaces. Exposed to excessive noise and possibility of cuts and bruises from moving parts, sharp edges and power tools. Required wearing protective safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, and respirator. May be required to work in asbestos contaminated areas.
