This position serves as the Program Support Assistant (OA) to Mental Health & Behavioral Science Service (MH&BSS) and provides administrative and operational support for the other professional staff of the MH&BSS Service.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to :
Accepts and supports the guiding principles of the MH&BSS Service and the Medical Center. Ensures are objectives and deadline are met.
The incumbent collects and maintains provider profiling data including various workload and procedure reports in VISTA and compiles the data for the preparation of provider On-going Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE's) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE's)
Assists with purchasing items required to support the Service.
Performs service ADPAC duties to provide IT/technical support, facilitating access to necessary VISTA menus and keys
Performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the Veteran.
Actively supports the team concept and functions as a team player. Individual will provide support for the MH&BSS Service with regard to reporting data on clinical care delivery, resource planning in the form of space, equipment and supplies, resource allocation and expenditures within the service, and maintenance of the Service's clinicians' credentialing and privileging.
Participates in management and administrative review of essential services and concerns. Answers and responds to personal and telephone inquiries relating to administrative issues and monitors progress on Service deadlines.
Assists with updating and filing of manual changes, regulations, official publications, as well as maintaining administrative files for the department in accordance with VA guidelines.
Acts as one of the Service's record liaison personnel for the MH&BSS Service and Chief of Staff Office.
Serves as a resource person to MH&BSS Service personnel instructing them on expenditures, available funds, and correlating information pertaining to MH&BSS Service's and resources and funding.
The incumbent may interact frequently with ancillary service such as Emergency Department, Laboratory, Social Work, Engineering and Acquisition and Material Management as well as Service Chiefs throughout the Medical Center.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications

In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skill;
Typing a minimum of 40 words per minute.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-05 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Maintains control records on incoming items requiring action and follows up to assure a timely response.
Maintains tracking logs, administrative suspense items, and transaction records for areas of oversight and prepares necessary reports.
Maintains computer literacy and general knowledge of computer packages utilized in patient care and / or administration support functions.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the high school level (i.e. 6 months of specialized experience and 3 years of education above the high school level). NOTE: Only education beyond the second year can be used in combination with specialized experience to qualify for this grade.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary however, involves walking and lifting of office equipment and supplies.
