The primary purpose of this position is to Serve as the Deputy Director and MAJCOM Chief of Occupational Safety with duties, responsibilities, and authorities to oversee, manage, plan, organize, administer, evaluate, and coordinate Federal, DoD, and Air Force occupational safety and health programs for all areas of AFDW DRU programs engaged in complex (cont. below)

DUTIES:
As Deputy Director of Safety and ADFW's Chief of Occupational Safety Division plans, organizes, and manages the activities of the directorate with the director, ensuring Occupational Safety policies and programs comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs.
Exercises MAJCOM responsibility for mishap response and investigation of all occupational safety-related events as required by Federal, DoD, and Air Force guidance and requirements for which the command is responsible.
Represents the AFDW Safety Directorate with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
Provides technical occupational safety and health expertise regarding Federal, DoL, DoD, DoE, DoT, NATO, Host Nation, and Air Force criteria with responsibility covering diverse occupational safety programs.
Drafts command policy, goals, and guidance coordinating applicable work efforts with Air Force Safety
Center (AFSEC), Secretary of the Air Force Installations, Environment and Energy (SAF/IE), and other Field Command safety staffs, for implementation into occupational safety and health programs.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Safety and Occupational Health Management Series 0018.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: CURRENT AND PRIOR FEDERAL EMPLOYEES: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. EXTERNAL APPLICANTS: must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-13, or equivalent in other pay systems Examples of specialized experience includes expert knowledge and skill to serve as recognized authority and consultant on safety technical and operational matters that affect national and international interests; Knowledge and skill sufficient to generate new safety and occupational health management and administrative principles, develop original concepts applicable to new or emerging safety functions, and to plan and evaluate extensive, long-range safety programs and projects of a national magnitude. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-?grade requirements to be considered eligible. Current and Prior Federal Employees: One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. External Applicants: One year at the GS-13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Expert knowledge of Federal, DoD, and Air Force principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues which provide the capability to recommend substantive program changes or alterative new courses of managerial action requiring the extension and modification of existing safety and occupational health management techniques critical to the resolution of safety and occupational health management problems.
Expert knowledge of federal, DoD, and Air Force safety and health requirements, methods, techniques, and procedures which includes: environmental safety, Occupational safety, hazardous chemicals and toxic wastes, radiation protection, fire suppression and protection systems, and mishap investigation and reporting; etc.
Knowledge of organizational and functional responsibilities and operations of the employing organization to identify problems and develop innovative solutions; and the ability to research, analyze, interpret and apply rules, regulations, and procedures, plan and organize work.
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and supervise, mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization as a first level supervisor.
Ability to coordinate and integrate the work activities of several organizational segments or several different projects and to adjust work operations to meet emergency, changing program, or production requirements within available resources and with minimum sacrifice of quantity or quality of work.
Ability to deal with widely diverse individuals and groups in gaining support for program goals and working out solutions to problems as well as gaining cooperation from others through tact, courtesy, diplomacy, and consensus.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
