About the Position:
Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Duties
Make any replacement necessary where repair is found impractical.
Examine vehicles, starts, and performs necessary operational checks to detect malfunctions in various systems.
Utilize hoists, jacks, overhead bridge crane, and assistance of other workers when heavier items are encountered.
Drive vehicles as required in diagnosing malfunctions and placing in an operable condition for pre-inspection.
Use technical manuals, illustrations, specifications, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides to make repair and modifications.
Perform pre-shop analysis of heavy mobile and engineering equipment to determine maintenance needed on equipment and make repairs.
Test equipment such as diesel and gasoline engines ranging up to 1000 horsepower, hydromatic and crossdrive transmissions, and assembled power packs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a government travel card (GTC).
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment/deployment physical and maintain annual requirements.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 90% of the time. (CONUS/OCONUS)
- This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
- Position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE) provided by the employer.
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 1 year and 1 day. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic (Direct Hiring Authority)~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties such as perform pre-shop analysis of heavy mobile and engineering equipment to determine the type of maintenance needed. Test drive for correct operations and ensure proper preventive and safety maintenance is maintained. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Works in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. Requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing over large heavy equipment, working on top of and under equipment, and in cramped and awkward positions. Frequently lifts, carries and moves items weighing over 50 pounds and exerts considerable physical effort in pushing, pulling, turning and positioning items. Utilizes hoists, jacks, overhead bridge crane, and assistance of other workers when heavier items are encountered.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and frequently outdoors in all types of weather. There is exposure to drafts, loud noise, dirt, oils, grease, hydraulic fluid, and the possibility of cuts, burns, sprains, bruises and skin irritations from fluids and lubricants. Observes established safety practices by wearing protective or safety equipment such as ear plugs or muffs, safety shoes, protective eye glasses, face shield, goggles, gloves, rubber aprons and hard
hats.
Education
