The employee will serve as the Medical Administrative Assistant at the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks, in Fayetteville, AR. The position serves as the Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD). The employee's responsibility is to represent the Medical Center Director and the Chief and the Health Administration Service on all administrative matters occurring when assigned to other than a normal tour of duty.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Interpret policy guidelines as they apply to overall medical programs. Determine patient eligibility and entitlements for all benefits. Ensure appropriate legal, regulatory and policy requirements are met. Resolve conflicts as they apply to health administration matters. Coordinate the resolution of medical-legal problems concerning the medical center. Provide technical guidance necessary to meet procedural, legal and administrative requirements related to the care and treatment of patients. Uses a personal computer and a variety of software packages (word processing, spreadsheet, database, etc.). Prepare and maintain daily gains and losses sheet and other statistical reports. Call in all necessary employees to attend to patient care needs. Provide information to patents, family members and staff on various issues. Perform related duties as required. Work Schedule: Shift Work; This position works various shifts - current shifts are 8:00 am-4:30 pm, 4:00 pm-12:00 am, 12:00 am-8:00 am, 8:00 am-8:00 pm, 8:00 pm-8:00 am, 6:00 am-4:00 pm (5 days per week with 2 days off) - have to be willing to work weekends and holidays. Subject to change based on the needs of the agency. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized. Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Pending Approval Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: having knowledge of all aspects of health administration programs; preparing correspondence relating to patient care activities; coordinating patient referrals and transfers; overseeing determination of applicant's eligibility; functioning as facility operator; and maintaining good public relations. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Administration and ManagementCommunicationsComputer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical) IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: This position necessitates a mobility factor involving, for observation or problem solving, physically visiting numerous on-site locations or services. Additionally, there is an occasional requirement to lift objects such suitcases and personal effects containers.
