Duties
Contribute to NIST research programs in next generation networking and distributed system technologies that result in demonstrable advances in emerging standards, and technology transfer that expedites the commercialization and deployment of such technologies. Collaborate with NIST programmatic activities including protocol design, standards development, rapid prototyping, open-source software development, design and execution of modeling and measurement experiments, data analysis and visualization, and publication of research results. Develop and maintain technical expertise in core Internet and next generation wireless technologies, cloud computing and virtualization technologies, and network security technologies.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
In addition to the above basic requirements: All applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of the specialized experience at the GS-9 level (ZP-II at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience in the design, implementation, test and evaluation of core network technologies including network management and control protocols (e.g., SNMP, gNMI, gRPC), routing and switching protocols (e.g., BGP, MPLS), and signaling protocols. Experience with the implementation and evaluation of network security protocols and cryptographic algorithms. Experience with 5G core network technologies, including 5G cloud-native virtualization environments (e.g, Kubernetes, Docker), and existing open source 5G core platforms such as ONF Aether, and Open5GCore. Experience in the use of large-scale simulation and emulation environments, including direct experience with network emulation and test technologies (e.g., Emulab, Docker, NS-3).
