This position is located in a Consolidated Patient Account Center (CPAC) in the organization of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Cash Management Division with the incumbent serving as a Cashier. The CPAC is a regionally consolidated business entity established to enhance revenue operations throughout the VHA network by standardization and consolidation of functions, and the integration of VHA and industry best practices.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-06. At the GS-05 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-06. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Receives and/or disburses cash in accordance with the corresponding laws, rules, and regulations for the particular transaction. Ensures the fulfillment of regulatory requirements associated with depository functions. Responsible to the Treasury Department for any loss or shortage in funds under his/her control. Ensures conformance to procedures and instructions contained in the Department of Treasury Manual of Procedures and Instructions for Cashiers. Examines and performs quality audits of deposits in order to ensure regulatory issues are met, reconciles cash accountability and reviews vouchers for completeness, accuracy and propriety before making payment, referring questionable vouchers for audit prior to disbursement. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements: GS-05 Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience, which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Cashier, GS-05 position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, this specialized experience must have been equivalent to the GS-04 level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: performing cashier duties to include cash/check/electronic funds transfer processing functions involving the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody and other clerical processing of cash; examining and performing audits; and reconciling cash accountability. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~OR~ GS-05: Substitution of Education for Experience (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED): Four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. ~OR~ GS-05: Combination of Education and Experience (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED): Successful completion of education and experience to meet the total experience requirements as described above. NOTE: Only education beyond the second year can be used in combination with specialized experience to qualify for this grade. GS-06 Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience, which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Cashier, GS-06 position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, this specialized experience must have been equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: performing cashier duties to include cash/check/electronic funds transfer processing functions involving the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody and other clerical processing of cash; examining and performing audits; reconciling cash accountability; and preparing financial reports. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. Attention to DetailOral CommunicationTechnical CompetenceWritten Communication IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
