You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST (SHIPBUILDING) in the ENGINEERING & ANALYSIS BRANCH, ENGINEERING & ANALYSIS DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will monitor, collect, compile, analyze quality data to detect unsatisfactory/common trends, problems, or conditions/weakness in the quality system, shipyard operations and investigate complex quality problem areas/systems for underlying causes.
You will conduct detailed investigations, audits, and studies to determine where quality control methods, procedures, and techniques could be utilized or existing ones improved on.
You will conduct special studies or lead problem solving teams dealing with extremely broad, complex, and sensitive quality problem areas and issues.
You will provide on-the-job training and/or guidance to other personnel conducting data categorization, classification and validation.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying quality assurance principles, concepts and practices as they relate to submarine overhaul, with emphasis on responsibilities for inspections and tests;
Experience identifying common causes of problem areas and make recommendations for improvement;
Experience collecting, monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting statistical quality data such as audit findings, surveillances, and deficiency reports to detect negative trends;
Experience interpreting higher level and local requirements, directives, standards, procedures, instructions, technical manuals, drawings, and technical work documents;
Experience analyzing quality indicators to determine trends that would necessitate corrective actions in Shipyard processes and procedures.
