You will serve as an IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC) for the Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO) Branch, Network Operations Division, Network Activity National Capital Region (NetAct NCR) of Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Group (MCCOG).

Duties

You will conduct security assessments (physical and technical). You will manage specialty filters, sensors and/or devices (both network and host based) designed to monitor and/ or counter specific threats. You will plan and manage information technology (IT) acquisition projects with issues that involve complicating elements, such as innovative technologies, or technology-related change management issues. You will develop, monitor, and analyze information technology (IT) systems security integration, testing, operations, and maintenance activities at the systems or network level to ensure compliance with systems security requirements.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP-SECRET clearance. Failure to meet any security requirements may result in the withdrawal of position offer or termination from the position.
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP). A pre-employment drug test is required, and the position is subject to random drug testing.
  • This position is designated as a Mission Essential (ME) position.
  • The incumbent is required to report for duty, as necessary, in an emergency (regardless of holidays, weekends, nights, furloughs) or conditions such as weather in which non-essential personnel are not expected to report.
  • Required overnight travel may be as high as 20% of the time.
  • Responsible for maintaining DoD Directive 8570 IAM Level II certification until superseded by DoD Directive 8140 requirements.
  • This position is telework eligible.

Qualifications

You are required to have minimum one year of information technology (IT) related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include developing, monitoring, and analyzing information (IT) Systems security integration, testing, operations, and maintenance activities at the systems or network level to ensure compliance with systems security requirements. 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT related experience demonstrating this competency include serving as a subject matter expert and providing direct customer support to help resolve security vulnerability issues that cannot be resolved through automated means. 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include providing technical expertise recommendations/directions for networking initiatives to coworkers assigned to projects and represent branch in meetings and conferences with technical counterparts of other organizations. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include providing recommendations for possible improvements and upgrades. In addition to your experience demonstrating the four competencies above, you are required to have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies or knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience is typically in or directly relates to the work of the position to be filled. Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by: Conducting assessments of security controls at the systems or network level to determine the effectiveness of the controls; and installing, configuring, and upgrading network appliances such as firewalls, intrusion detection and protection systems, wireless intrusions detection system, web filtering and other similar devices as necessary. This position is within the Work Category PROFESSIONAL at Work Level FULL PERFORMANCE, Series and Grade GG-2210-12.
