The Transportation Assistant for the Fleet Program, Engineering Service, is located at the Oklahoma VA Health Care System (OKCVAHCS). The Transportation Assistant is responsible performing administrative and fleet support associated with the Facility Fleet Program. The employee assists the Fleet Manager with the OKCVAHCS Fleet Program that maintains 160+ government vehicles. The Transportation Assistant ensures delivery of medical supplies and the coordination of snow removal.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include:
Responsible for coordinating and scheduling drivers for weekly and weekend transporting and deliveries of medical supplies and the pick-ups and transporting of lab samples between the outpatient clinics and the main facility.
Preparing schedules; assigns, communicates, and prioritizes the work of the Motor Vehicle Operators (MVO) and MVO Leader to ensure daily coverage of transporting and deliveries.
Reviewing leave requests to ensure required driver coverage for transporting and delivery of medical supplies and lab samples.
Creating schedules and distributes to staff the work for the removal of snow from sidewalks, parking lots, and parking garages.
Assisting with the planning and coordinating of the vehicle rotation program by reviewing utilization patterns, scheduling and rotating vehicle usage to achieve maximum efficiency and economy.
Assisting with the improvement of motor vehicle management, safety, and fuel conservation. Provides guidance with cost reduction, energy reduction and productivity improvement.
Assisting and coordinating the completion of vehicle repairs, regular scheduled services and preventive maintenance of government vehicles.
Assisting with properly distributing and safeguarding vehicle keys, credit cards, and EZ Passes, ensuring proper use, turn-in, and reporting of vehicle activities.
Assisting Fleet Manager with the submission of monthly, quarterly and annual summary reports, including vehicle mileage, utilization and expenditures.
Tracking and maintaining files for driver training certificates, completion dates and copies of driver licenses.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 7:30am to 4:00pm

Qualifications
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-5 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Transportation Assistant. Specialized experience includes performing administrative and fleet support duties for a transportation department such as maintaining records, scheduling services and performing audits/inventory; assisting and coordinating with fleet rotation, vehicle repairs and preventative maintenance; coordinating and scheduling drivers for transport and deliveries. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.)

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: You must have successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)

COMBINATION: You must possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level.
