You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Mechanical Shop (930), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will ensure all computer aided machining and CIM manufacturing engineering processes encompass the entire spectrum of available shipyard procedures.
You will assist production shop supervisors and shop planners as necessary in interpretation of all documentation.
You will advise engineers and planning and estimating personnel of the capabilities and limitation of existing mechanical shop CNC machinery.
You will perform analytical translation of engineering design layouts and drawings to program control media for operation and control of CNC machine tools.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience troubleshooting communication problems using the Network File System (NFS), Network Queuing System (NQS), Domain Naming System (DNS) and Distributed Numerical Control (I/DNC) software utilizing TCP/IP, XNS and RS-232 protocols.
Experience interpreting complex technical manuals, metallurgical/machinability data and planning, translating and writing clear and concise CAM specifications;
Experience performing computer aided manufacturing (CAM) and CNC machining.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience in computer aided manufacturing, engineering technical process development and computerized data development for CAM and CNC machining.
Extensive experience in the utilization and application of NC/CNC/DNC machine tools and troubleshooting processes under Voyage Repair and similar adverse conditions.
Experience working with the Intergraph suite of CAD/CM software with emphasis on modeling and drafting (I/EMS), computer aided process planning (I/CAPP), multi axis machining (I/Maxmill and I/Turn) and machine language output processing and numerical control (I/NC).
Extensive experience working with the Factory Floor Integration System and Distributed Numerical Control Network (FFIS-DNCN) for data, machine and user management.
