About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain half way between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, Alabama just off interstate 20. The depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees
Duties
Interpret complex drawings and incomplete blueprints and provide guidance to other workers to accomplish assign task within a projected timeline.
Perform machining work that requires the use of most types of conventional machine tools to affect the fabrication from raw stock, repair or modification of items used in the maintenance repair mission.
Apply knowledge of mathematics and algebraic formulas to establish gear trains to produce specific lead or pitch to fabricate the raw stock.
Determine work methods and techniques to be used in the machining of parts.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist without more than normal supervision. I can set-up and operate one or more machines such as milling machines, lathes, grinders, drill presses, power saws, and metalizing equipment. I select proper type and size of material from stock and establishes working point requiring knowledge of the various metals, the surface finishes to be machined, the proper cutting tools and correct machine feeds necessary to produce a quality product. I can make adjustments to the machine to ensure dimensional accuracy and type of finish required and determines the proper use of available jigs and fixtures. Incumbent uses precision instruments such as calipers, scales, depth gauges, micrometers, thread gauges and other similar measuring devices common to the trade.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Must work in standing, stooping, bending and reaching positions. Frequently handles items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally is required to lift items in excess of 45 pounds
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in shop that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable odors, smoke and fumes and also there is danger to skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive particles, and hot metal; skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants and abrasive compounds; and danger to the fingers, hands and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces and moving parts of machines. Insures that hazardous materials/ waste within work area are handled/processed within operating guidelines. Guidance for the proper handling of hazardous materials/ waste is obtained through formal training efforts and specific guidance issued by the supervisor. Insures that storage drums, and other containers housing hazardous materials/waste are properly labeled and secured at all times. Reports any deficiencies to the supervisor. Properly disposes of hazardous materials/waste used/generated at work site. Immediately notifies supervisor of any accident or spill and initiates response actions as directed by supervisor. Since exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., steel toed boots, coveralls, safety eyewear, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
