The primary purpose of this position is to provide Structural Equipment Specialist expertise and technical assistance for assigned equipment and to serve as the technical expert to AF organizations in terms of structural components and technical data.
Duties
Collect, analyse, interpret, and/or develop specialized information systems and components.
Provide assistance and/or advisory services to those who design, test, produce, procure, supply, operate, repair, and/or dispose of structural systems and components.
Manage, advise, assist, and/or coordinate systems, components, and equipment maintenance/repair programs, strategies, and/or operations in accordance with regulatory policy, processes, and guidance.
Manage, advise, and/or assist in the planning, scheduling, execution, control, and/or resourcing of the production process in maintenance activities.
Manage, advise, and/or assist the disposal of unusable, excess, and/or obsolete systems and components.

Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-1670, Equipment Specialist Series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-1670, Equipment Services Series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Concepts, principles, and practices in the occupation, or those concepts and principles characterized as requiring extended specialized training and experience, and skill in apply this knowledge to difficult and complex assignments such as planning and conducting work that requires significant judgement in evaluating, selecting, and adapting precedents, and modifying procedures and criteria. Working as a skilled mechanic or maintenance worker, sales or service engineer, or planner or estimator in a technical group dealing with manufacture, utilization, repair, or operation of equipment. Reviewing and applying technical specifications and requirements. Analyzing equipment and forecasting spare parts requirements. Reading and interpreting engineering change orders, equipment requisitions, shop orders, and workorders. Analyzing contract specifications and examining pertinent equipment to determine if specifications are met. Analyzing or supervising maintenance, repair, or production operations to determine methods of improvement.

EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field related to the position, or an LL.M., if related. NOTE: You must submit copies of your unofficial transcripts with your application if using education as a substitution of experience.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed, qualifying education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in a field related to the position, in excess of a masters or equivalent graduate degree may be used to qualify applicants for the GS-11 level.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-?grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of structural design and manufacturing of a family of equipment, parts, assemblies, components and subsystems and composite weapon systems to includes knowledge of their characteristics, properties and uses.
Knowledge of policies and procedures for maintaining equipment, ability to review, analyze, and evaluate equipment specialist programs and knowledge of applicable customer services standards.
Knowledge of sources, responsibilities, and means to provide timely assistance and economical solutions for technical problems.
Knowledge of structure, content, codes, internal and external interfaces, update procedures and uses of automated supply systems and databases and automated databases for equipment specialist determination.
Skill to enhance maintenance effectiveness and efficiency to ensure that modifications or new equipment will satisfactorily interface with existing equipment and skill in using information systems and software for research to review, interpret, analyze, evaluate, and write technical data.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is mainly sedentary, but may require some walking in offices, production areas, utility plants, food service facilities, laboratories, and work areas. Some employees may carry light items such as briefcases, notebooks, work papers, and test equipment or drive a motor vehicle. The work does not require any special Physical effort or ability.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work area is usually an office setting that is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. Some employees may occasionally be exposed to uncomfortable conditions in facilities such as production facilities and utility plants.
