You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the ENGINEERING BUSINESS LINE of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will prepare detailed specifications for items/services required in purchased in place contracts and is responsible for quality control inspection for the same. You will communicate effectively with customers and management. You will assist in designing, planning, and cost estimating for the trades and crafts involved in execution of facilities services. You will assist with conducting analyses and assessments of facility, site and environmental conditions.

Requirements

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing recurring planning, estimating, and corrective maintenance for small, medium, and large maintenance/inventory/repair/replacement projects; 2) Preparing cost estimates and job plans in sufficient detail to show specific mechanical equipment, material and personnel requirements for maintenance, inventory, repair, and replacement of facility equipment; 3) Using software such as Maximo, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word to accomplish cost estimate and equipment inventory requests; 4) Reading and applying understanding of as-built drawings for facilities mechanical equipment inventories; 5) Applying understanding of facility mechanical equipment life cycle processes related to Infrastructure Condition Assessment Program (iCAP) and projected future funding; and 6) Facilitating safety practices and industry building codes. For Outside applicants (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service): I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Performing recurring planning and estimating for corrective maintenance of mechanical systems within facilities; 2) Preparing cost estimates and job plans showing equipment, material and personnel requirements for the construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of facilities ; 3) Utilizing the technical aspects of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, and practices to perform the full range of projects such as the construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of facilities; 4) Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and sketches; 5) Incorporating safety, environmental and energy conservation requirements in job plans. Education

Applicants that do not meet the specialized experience as described above may qualify with education or a combination of experience and education, as follows:
I have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree;
or
two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree;
or
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
