This position is located in Rock Creek Park, in the heart of the National Capital Region. The incumbent serves as Park Manager, responsible for the management, administration, interpretation, resource management, program development, operation and maintenance of the combined areas of the park and Parkway and its environs extending from the Maryland line on the north, Bladensburg Road on the east, Florida Avenue on the South, and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal on the west.
Duties
The major duties of the Park Manager position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsible for the overall supervision and coordination of park operations.
Plans, directs, coordinates leadership to all park management programs.
Responsible for coordinating the activities of subordinate managers, guiding the direction of their efforts, setting priorities, allocating resources, setting standards, evaluating performances and otherwise maintaining an effective and efficient organization.
Serves on various committees designed to enhance park operations.
Responsible for the annual operating budget and staff of the park.
Responsible for the safety and health of employees and visitors of the park.
Develops and approves multi-year programs for cultural resource preservation, natural resource inventory and monitoring, and preventive and preservation maintenance.
Provides expert advice and guidance to Regional Office and Agency officials on local issues and the effects of current efforts and anticipated plans or policy changes related to the battlefield protection program.
Provides leadership in the development of policies, standards and procedures which govern the professional conduct of work related to the administration and implementation of all programs within the park.
Communicates with foreign missions and representatives from those nations and private residents whose property abuts the park.
Communicates with the public, media, and elected officials.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. To qualify for this position at the GS-15 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes the following activities: supervising an organizational unit or division or program area within a park or similar organization; investigating unusual or complex park or personnel problems or criticisms and developing solutions to controversial situations; providing leadership in the development of the policies, standards and procedures which govern the professional conduct of work related to the administration and implementation of park or similar programs. You must include hours per week worked.
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
