This position is located within the Lands and Planning Division of the National Capital Area (NCA) Office in Washington, D.C. Incumbent serves as the Deputy Associate Area Director, Lands and Planning, providing management and policy direction for all program areas of the Office of Lands and Planning.

Duties
The major duties of the Supervisory Park Ranger include, but are not limited to, the following:
Manager of the Environmental Compliance (NEPA), Environmental Systems Management, Planning and Geographic Information Systems Programs; executes written and verbal direction to make changes or adjustment required; provides leadership in emphasizing overall direction for division activities.
Plans and directs new area studies, park protection for adjacent land use and land resources management, environmental compliance, land acquisition and right of way administration, and non-budgetary legislation.
Directs the study, analysis and preparation of development projects, transportation projects, proposed by private and public entities adjacent to parklands are mitigated through active participation in relevant state or local planning processes to protect park resources and the Federal interest.
Compiles program budget needs, communicates these needs to WASO and is responsible for allocating and tracking monies.
Serves as a regional liaison for park projects seeking approval at National Capital Planning Commission and the Commission of Fine Arts.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Presenting and defending project proposals/designs (i.e., planning, zoning, historic preservation, or design review commission) to achieve park objectives; Designing public facilities or landscapes towards park preservation; Guiding work conducted by architects or landscape architects to ensure project is within scope; Establishing direct, collaborative relationships with elected and appointed officials of state and local governments; Negotiating with federal, state, and local officials on proposed projects and policies, involving land development or preservation, property exchanges or acquisitions, roads and trails, or resource protection. You must include hours per week worked.
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
