About the Position: Serves as Deputy to the Chief, Army Casualty and Mortuary Affairs Branch, providing subject matter expertise and guidance regarding all phases of the Army casualty program to include guidance on policy, organizational objectives, anticipated areas of concern, and/or special projects and programs. Position is located in Human Resources Command, The Adjutant General Directorate, at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Duties
Provide leadership/guidance, direct priorities work, and ensure accuracy/quality of work output for the Army Casualty Notifications and Case Management Phases.
Reconcile issues raised by Casualty Assistance Centers (CAC), develop courses of action, then report and advise leaders accordingly.
Analyze problems posed by the operating force; recommends potential resolution and policy or regulation changes, as applicable.
Provide technical and sound guidance to 30+ Army?s Casualty Assistant Centers (CACs) and Senior leadership concerning all matters related to the Army Casualty Program.
Evaluate and improve timeliness or quality of work output, casualty case management processes and procedures.
Ensure the development of the Civilian workforce within the Branch through Individual Development Plans and goals.
Investigate and respond to issues raised in Congressional and White House correspondence, IG reports, and inquiries from Commands, or the public.
Provide trusted advice for inclusion in all statutory, administrative, policy, and operational Army requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Position requires occasional travel away from the normal duty station.
- A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- This position requires a Form SF 312, Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement (NDA).
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization.

Specialized Experience is defined as: experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience providing guidance regarding all phases of a diverse Army program to include guidance on policy and organizational objectives; planning and executing organizational goals and objectives; coordinating and monitoring a wide variety of initiatives involving Army Programs; preparing executive summaries, recommends courses of action, provides information requests to the appropriate subordinate activities, and insures that the tasks are completed as required and/or directing assignment of ongoing work on a quarterly and annual basis.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
