About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Range Operations Specialist at DPTMS (Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobility, and Security) in Fort Riley,
Duties
Provide current range protocol guidance to customers regarding safety and utilization of ranges.
Inspect training facilities prior to use to ensure that they meet safety standards.
Maintain placement of warning signs, road blocks, and barriers preventing access to permanent and temporary impact areas in addition to designated hazard areas.
Survey range and training areas to ensure activities are in compliance with regulations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must possess and maintain a State of Kansas driver's license.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government motor vehicle operator's identification card (OF 346) within 30 days after hire.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain equipment operator's qualification record (DA 348) with 30 days after hire.
- Incumbent is subject to an irregular tour of duty to cover 24 hour-a-day (must be able to work on rotating shifts), 7 days per week operation, to include holidays.
- Overtime may be required.
- Shift work is required.
- Incumbent must successfully complete Accident Avoidance training; receive and maintain card with issue/renewal dates within 30 days after hire.
- Pre-placement physical exam may be required due to the physical demands required of the position.
- Recruitment/Relocation/Retention Incentive may be authorized.
- Defense National Relocation Program will NOT be authorized.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1). Provide range operations training to ensure awareness among all participants involved in field exercises; 2). Coordinate range operation requirements to avoid potential scheduling conflicts; and 3. Ensure daily range/training area utilization and incident data is entered into a computer database to validate documentation on file.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: operations manangement.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
